A Walk to Remember

Take A Walk to Remember

Many years ago this day
You asked to take my hand
To walk with you through storm and calm
And mark the flow of sand.
Through the hourglass upturned
Our life force drains away
And nothing we can say or do
Will bid the sand to stay.
So hold my hand the tighter now
I fear the rise ahead
The fearsome vista it may hold
Elicits mortal dread.
And if you top the rise before
I get there - please wait up.
We've come this far together since
We quaffed the wedding cup.
It's only mete and fitting that
You tarry there for me
For I might stumble left alone
If "we" should cease to be.

Marriage is an event followed by a process of learning intimacy. A lifetime together is a like taking a long walk together, one that may be captured in short love poems. There comes a time in long marriages where the weight of shared experiences makes it difficult for each partner to imagine being without the Other:

Romantic poems under the heading of "Original" on the navigation bar are the work of poet Jeannette Ramirez

A Walk to Remember is one from a collection called "Parting."
