Complementarity
You are the saucer, I am the cup.
You are the shoelace that ties me all up.
You are the words to the song that I sing
You are the clapper that makes my bell ring.
You are the spice that enhances this dish
You are my world, and my hope, and my wish.
Come into my parlor, little fly
I've lots of treats - some sweat meats? - by the by
My motives - pure as driven snow -
You know this for I told you so
I'd never lie to you, dear little fly.
Never before and never again*Thanks and a nod to Shel Silverstein's "Nobody." I recited this poem to my daughters and they now recite it back to me.
Could I envision a lovelier friend
To bring me some peaches and tempt me with pears
And smooth back the strands of my flyaway hairs
To come to my picnics and shoe away flies
And ply me with strawberries baked into pies
And so, when the twilight paints indigo blue
Over this day, I will tarry with you.
There's beauty in a wilted rose
Its life is spent, its poem, now prose.
I wonder what it formerly
Spoke to someone specially?
Original and therefore fresh love greetings...
