Love poetry on life's road, ahead, what lies? Behind, other, younger pairs, travelers to that same uncertain horizon, stroll hand in hand.
We've traveled far together, you and I
Along a ribboned tendril tapered off
Somewhere up ahead to meet the sky
And join with ocean, mother to us all.

What lies out there as those three points converge?
And can we know, for that dim mote recedes?
With every step together that we take.
I'm weary, yet you urge me, "Come along."
And turning round, behind us on the dune
Comes another couple hand-in-hand
He whispers, smiles, she laughs, a private ear
Slushing, shuffling, picking pretty shells.
And then they turn, to hail a distant child
Alone for now. Our sure parade proceeds.

A salt and pepper landscape lies outside
A dormant frost forgetting springs to come
Unlike my heart that ever must abide
Within the womb-like warmth within our home
I long to hear the crackling fireplace
To push aside my fear and merely mark
The seconds of tonight in sweet embrace
And snuggle down beside you in the dark
To pass my hand across your bristly cheek
And look into your soft responding eyes
While you and I are hesitant to speak
Afraid to kill this moment. We are wise,
For others live beyond that glass, we're told,
Bare ruined choirs shaking in the cold.
